Questions about the Program

How does DYLEP work?

DYLEP is a virtual exchange program, which means that during the program, Iraqi and American youth connect using online platforms. Program activities are all online, and include videos, webinars, discussion forums, and group calls. (There is no travel!)

When is DYLEP 2017?

DYLEP will occur from June to August 2017.

What is the difference between IYLEP and DYLEP?

IYLEP is an in-person exchange program where activities happen across the U.S. DYLEP is a virtual exchange program where activities happen online!

Who participates in DYLEP?

In 2016, more than 70 young leaders were chosen from all over Iraq and the United States to participate in DYLEP! They were from 11 different Iraqi provinces and various states in the U.S.

How many people will be accepted to DYLEP 2017?

We are looking for 225 exceptional high school students to participate in DYLEP 2017.

How many hours would I spend on DYLEP during the summer?

If selected, you will spend about 2-4 hours on DYLEP each week over the course of the program.

Questions about the Eligibility

I applied to IYLEP 2017. Can I also apply for DYLEP 2017?

Yes. You can apply for DYLEP 2017 even if you applied for IYLEP 2017. However, if selected for both programs, you will have to choose one to participate.

I am an IYLEP alumnus. Can I apply for DYLEP 2017?

Unfortunately, no. If you are an IYLEP alumnus, that means you have participated in a government-funded exchange programs, which means that you are not eligible for DYLEP.

I will be 18 years old on June 1, 2017. Can I apply for DYLEP 2017?

Yes. You can apply for DYLEP 2017 if you are 15-18 years old on June 1, 2017.

I am currently a sixth year student in Iraq. Can I apply for DYLEP 2017?

Yes, if you meet all the other requirements, then you may apply for DYLEP.

I am an Iraqi citizen but I do not live in Iraq. Can I apply?

Yes. You can be an Iraqi citizen who lives outside of Iraq.

Should I apply?

Yes! Since DYLEP is an online program and does not involve any travel, students can participate from anywhere and structure the work around their own schedules. We also encourage students with disabilities and diverse backgrounds to apply.

Questions about the Application

 I forgot my username. What do I do?

If you forgot your username, send an email to dylep@worldlearning.org using the email you used to sign up for an account. In your email, include your first name and last name. Once we receive your email, we will respond to it with your username.

I forgot my password. What do I do?

If you forgot your password, go to the application and click on “Forgot Your Password?” and follow the steps from there.

I forgot to include something in my application. Can I add it after I submit my application?

Unfortunately, no. If you have submitted your application, we will not be able to change it.

I made a mistake in my application. Can I change my application after I submit it?

No. No changes will be allowed after an application has been submitted.

Can I send in my documents in after the deadline?

No. The documents are due on the same day as the application, which is Wednesday, March 15, 2017. Make sure you work on the documents first since they may take more time.

Can I upload the recommendation letters myself?

Yes. Please upload it under the “Documents” tab in your application.

Does my teacher or adult reference have to handwrite the letter, or can he or she type the letter?

Your teacher or adult reference can handwrite or type the letter. However, he or she must print it out and sign it by hand.

Where should my teachers or adult references send the recommendation letters?

If your teacher or adult reference would like to send their recommendation letters directly to World Learning, they can email them to dylep@worldlearning.org.

What are examples of forms of identification (ID)?

A form of ID could your driver’s license (for U.S. students), Iraqi ID Card, or a copy of your passport page.
